Glasgow City Council launch coronavirus business support fund

Glasgow City Council have launched a support fund for businesses adversely affected by coronavirus.

Hundreds have been hit as a result of COVID-19, with a further blow coming for businesses after the UK was put into effective lockdown last night in response to the pandemic.

All shops selling non-essential goods have now been ordered to close, while the likes of bars, restaurants and gyms have already been shut down.

The support fund, which is being administered by Glasgow City Council on behalf of the Scottish Government, will take the form of grants - £10,000 for those in receipt of the Small Business Bonus Scheme and £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure business ratepayers with a rateable value between £18,001 and £50,999.

Businesses are urged to submit applications before March 31, 2021.

The council say: "Scottish Government Coronavirus Business Support Fund is now available to help businesses deal with the impact of COVID-19.

"The purpose of these one-off grants is to help protect jobs, prevent business closure and promote economic recovery."

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, commented: "We are working with the Scottish Government to administer the Coronavirus Business Support Fund, to ensure that the city’s businesses and their employees are protected and able to recover once this crisis has ended.

"I urge businesses to complete the application and submit it to us as quickly as possible."
