Glasgow city centre to see introduction of new temporary bus stops to enable physical distancing

New temporary bus stops are to be introduced in Glasgow city centre next week, Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) have confirmed.

The measures are part of the Council's 'Spaces for People’ initiative, which also includes new one way operations and contraflow cycle lanes to enable physical distancing and help minimise the spread of Covid-19.

The bus stops will be implemented between Monday (July 20) and Wednesday (July 29), and will remain in place for a minimum period of three months.

TRAFFCOM confirm that the temporary 'bus boarders' will be introduced in the following 10 city centre streets:

•           George Street

•           George Square South

•           St Vincent Street

•           Hope Street

•           Bath Street

•           Renfield Street

•           Union Street

•           Jamaica Street

•           Oswald Street

•           West George Street

To help facilitate their introduction, a rolling programme of lane restrictions will be required on the above streets starting from Monday.  Bus stop closures have been kept to a minimum.

Delays are expected and drivers are advised to avoid the areas.
