Glasgow city centre road closure after 'concerns' for safety of building

Traffic is set to build up in Glasgow city centre due to a road closure sparked by concerns over a building on Jamaica Street.

Glasgow City Council's traffic management department TRAFFCOM confirmed that Jamaica Street is currently reduced to one lane between Argyle Street and Midland Street due to building structure damage.

The closure will remain in place until an inspection is carried out.

The closure is believed to be necessary due to concerns over a triangular window structure of the Q-Park car park, which incorporates the Lidl, Matalan and Currys/PC World stores into the building.

A bulletin issued by TRAFFCOM reads: " Due to building structure damage, Jamaica Street is reduced to one lane between Argyle Street and Midland Street.

"The closure will remain place until an inspection can be carried out."

More info on the closure when we have it.

UPDATE - Both lanes on Jamaica Street are now open.
