Glasgow City and Birmingham stars called up for World Cup qualifiers

Two Lanarkshire players have been included in Pedro Martinez Losa's 23-strong squad for FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Spain.

Glasgow City goalkeeper Lee Alexander, from East Kilbride, and Coatbridge's Christie Murray, who plies her trade for Birmingham City, have been rewarded with call-ups.

Scotland host Ukraine on Friday, November 26 at Hampden, and will also entertain Spain on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

Scotland are currently joint-top of their group with Spain, on nine points.

Alexander, 30, started her career at Hamilton Accies, and has enjoyed two spells at Glasgow City, either side of a spell in Sweden with Mallbackens IF.

Murray, 31, who pays in midfield or as a striker, has had spells at Celtic, Glasgow City, Arsenal, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Liverpool, before signing for Birmingham last year.
