Glasgow Cineworld hints at reopening date next month

Glaswegians have been flocking to the shops and their favourite restaurants, cafes and pubs in the city in their numbers after an easing of lockdown restrictions saw Scotland move from Level 4 to Level 3 of the tier system.

Museums, gyms and public libraries have also reopened, but notable omissions to the list have been theatres, cinemas and bingo halls, which are not due to reopen until May 17 under a further easing of covid restrictions announced by Nicola Sturgeon last month.

Speaking of cinemas, Cineworld, which operates from four locations in Glasgow at Silverburn, The Forge, the IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre and in the city centre, hinted at when they will likely reopen to movie lovers.

In response to a query on Twitter about when their 18-screen cinema on Renfield Street will reopen, Cineworld tweeted: "We expect to resume operations in the UK in May, in line with current government guidance.

"Please keep an eye on our social media channels and website for future announcements."

We don't know about you but that's enough for us to get even a teensy bit excited about the thought of being back at the pictures with a big juice and a bag of popcorn watching a movie!
