Glasgow Christmas Market at George Square cancelled as organisers issue statement

This year's Christmas Market at George Square has been cancelled, just days before preparations were due to get underway.

Organisers have this afternoon issued a statement advising of the cancellation, citing an inability to 'create a mutually agreeable plan' for the city centre venue, leaving dozens of Glasgow residents disappointed.

The market was due to run at the central Glasgow landmark from November 21 until December 23.

It's been confirmed the St Enoch Square market will still go ahead on the same dates and that many of the traders due to operate at George Square will be given the option of opening for business at the St Enoch site.

A spokesperson for Market Place Europe operators of Glasgow Christmas Market said: “The Glasgow Loves Christmas team explored every option with ourselves to make George Square market possible this Christmas.

"Unfortunately we haven’t been able to create a mutually agreeable plan for this venue.

"We are pleased to say that the Christmas market in St Enoch Square will be open from 21st November until 23rd December.

"Many of the traders from George Square have been offered space at the St Enoch Market location".
