Glasgow Christmas lights switch-on ballot opens today

That time of year has rolled round again.

Yes, Glasgow, Christmas has come early for those of you who have been champing at the bit for this news to be unwrapped.

The festive light switch-on ballot is now open - but don't worry if you're not prepared!

It'll stay active until midnight on Sunday, October 13, so plenty of time to get your name in the hat.

Last year, 309,422 residents requested a ticket and the total capacity for the extravaganza is 16,000, so it's always a highly competitive bid to get a pass.

Entry to the event on Sunday, November 17 is by ticket only with any that are unclaimed or returned going to people who have already entered the public ballot.

Anyone without access to the internet can get help to fill in an application at any one of Glasgow’s libraries.

In previous years, up to 15 per cent of tickets haven’t been used on the night so organisers are asking people to only request the exact number of tickets they will need.

A maximum of 6 tickets can be requested per household and only one application will be accepted per household.

Head to glasgowloveschristmas.com to apply for tickets for the big lights switch-on - and good luck!
