Glasgow Christmas light switch on reaction as city kicks off this year's festivities

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Glasgow city centre, with festive lights now illuminating the streets.

The big switch on took place on Sunday, and it was an action packed evening with thousands filling up George Square and the surrounding area in a bid to get the best view. For many, the event marks the start of the festivities sparking that little bit of magic and festive cheer in Glaswegians young and old.

Hosted by Clyde 1's George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, Glasgow was treated to a Little Mix tribute band before a 20-piece Berrie Big Band and Soul Nation Choir, with a crowd sing-along and comedy segment sandwiched in between. Santa himself also stopped by to say hello ahead of a performance from Scottish popstar Callum Beattie.

One person wrote: "It’s been a highlight ever since I was wee & it still is as a 27 year old. Lovely to be at the Glasgow Christmas Lights switch on tonight. The fireworks display was something else".

Another simply posted "Beautiful!!", with a third Tweeting "Just back from here was amazing".

Some people were not feeling as festive though, with one resident Tweeting: It’s November #justsaying".

Another was left upset after the impact the noise had to their pets. They commented: "Wonderful that so many of you enjoyed it. However we spent the night trying to console terrified dog and cats. Actually thought the windows were coming in. Ban the noise of fireworks."
