Glasgow choir heading to Carnegie Hall to perform with Pitch Perfect stars

A Glasgow choir is warming up to take on one of its biggest gigs yet.

Connect Choir will take to the stage of the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York next weekend, to take part in the fifth anniversary Total Vocal event.

The 10 Connect members will join other amateur choristers from around the world - as well as celebrity guests from smash hit movie Pitch Perfect, Broadway, and American A cappella TV competition The Sing-Off.

Early this year Connect's unique vocal arrangements reached the ears of leading US concert promoter Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY), resulting in an invite to perform at the iconic venue.

Dr. Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for DCINY, said: “Connect Choir received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the high quality of their audition recording. “It is quite an honor just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community’s recognition and support.”

The contemporary choir is made up of 88 members, some of which who travel from Stirling, Edinburgh and the west coast to take part in weekly rehearsals in the west end of Glasgow.

Connect differentiate themselves from other choirs due to their "unique vocal arrangements" and challenging repertoire by artists such as Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell and Aretha Franklin.

The choir was established two and half years ago with the aim connecting people through their love and music and singing, promoting positive mental health and giving performers and creative and social outlet.

Connect Choir Creative Director Madaleine Pritchard added: “Carnegie Hall is one of the most iconic music venue in the world,  it is a huge honour for Connect Choir to be invited to be invited to perform and to be under the musical direction of Deke Sharon is  dream come true."

Connect Choir perform on March 24.
