Glasgow chaos as 'large number' of traffic lights not working due to power cut

Glasgow commuters have faced chaos this morning after a power cut in the early hours caused a large number of traffic lights to stop working across the city.

Glasgow City Council's traffic information department (TRAFFCOM) issued an emergency bulletin at 7am confirming news of the problem, advising road users to exercise caution at all times as they approach junctions in the city until the issue is fixed.

The power cut is reported to have taken place just prior to 5am this morning.

Given that an engineer is requires to visit each set of traffic lights to test and reset them, it is anticipated that the issue could last until after morning rush our.

The bulletin reads: "A large number of traffic signals in the Glasgow City Council area are not functioning this morning. It is suspected that this was due to power issues at around 04.51 hrs this morning.

"An engineer is required to visit each site to reset/test, therefore it is expected that a number of traffic signals will remain off through the morning peak.

"Road users should exercise caution at all times."
