Glasgow Central Mosque pays tribute to elderly member found dead in building

Glasgow Central Mosque have paid tribute to an elderly member of their congregation who was found dead in the building.

The body of Mohammed Yusuf, 80, was discovered within the place of worship at around 3:40am this morning.

Police attended and sealed off the building for several hours.

A spokeswoman confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious.

In a statement on Facebook, Glasgow Central Mosque said: "In the early hours of this morning, an elderly member of our congregation, Mohammed Yusuf, was found in the Mosque, having passed away.

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

"To Allah we belong and to Allah we return"

They also asked thanked police and paramedics for their prompt response.

The post added: "May Allah (swt) grant him a high place in Jannat Al Firdous (heaven) and the family sabr (patience) during this extremely difficult time.

"We thank the emergency services for their prompt response and handling of the incident. Police Scotland have confirmed that the circumstances of our dear Mr Yusuf's passing aren't suspicious.

"We request the family be given time and space to come to terms with their loss."
