Glasgow carer struck off after sexually assaulting police officer

A Glasgow carer has been struck off after causing "emotional, psychological, and physical harm" after sexually assaulting a female police officer.

Kevin Kerr was employed as a support worker for adults in Glasgow before being found guilty of sexually assaulting a female police officer in September of 2020.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on March 23 over the charges made against him, where he showed "no insight, regret nor apology" for his actions.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) have removed Kevin Kerr from the register and condemned the seriousness of his actions for causing potential risk of harm to care service users.

They also pointed to his lack of remorse, apology or regret, stating the issues were not possible to be remedied.

Part of the SSSC report reads: "Imposing no sanction would not be appropriate as the behaviour is at the most serious end of the scale. You have been convicted of sexual assault.

"There are no exceptional circumstances to justify no sanction. Imposing no sanction would not address the public protection or public interest concerns. A warning would not be appropriate as the behaviour is at the higher end of the scale in terms of seriousness.

"You have not shown insight, regret nor apology. In light of this, there is a significant risk to people who use services and others working in the sector.

"The SSSC considers a Removal Order is the most appropriate sanction as it is both necessary and justified in the public interest and to maintain the continuing trust and confidence in the social service profession and the SSSC as the regulator of the profession."

Kevin Kerr will be removed from the register with immediate effect on June 6, 2023.
