Glasgow care home resident dies from coronavirus and others self isolating

A Glasgow care home resident has died after contracting coronavirus.

Management confirmed that several staff and residents are also self isolating.

It's the first death from the virus at David Cargill House, which managed to keep it at bay during the first wave, the Daily Record reports.

A statement issued today explains that health and safety remains a priority at the West End home.

And it points out that staff continue to follow advice from the Scottish Goverment.

It says: "It is with regret to note that at David Cargill House, we do have a number of our residents and staff diagnosed with Covid-19.
"Sadly, this has included one death. We offer our deepest condolences for the residents, family and friends and staff who have been affected by this.

"The staff at David Cargill House have been doing their utmost to provide compassionate care and support to our residents during these challenging times.

The statement goes on: "We have been fortunate to have a robust and plentiful supply of Personal Protective Equipment PPE, which is used by staff in accordance with guidance.

"This effectively saw the delay in the transmission of the virus into our home and saw us remain free from Covid-19 from the outset of the pandemic until very recently.

"Staff and residents who are affected are isolating to help reduce the virus spreading in the home.

"The health and safety of our staff and residents is our top priority and as the Covid-19 crisis continues, we are committed to continually doing everything we can to respond quickly and effectively, whilst following the latest advice from the government."

The Care Inspectorate has been contacted for comment.
