Glasgow care home resident celebrates 103rd birthday with prosecco, cake and Frank Sinatra songs

A Glasgow care home resident celebrated her 103rd birthday in style with prosecco, cake and Frank Sinatra songs to soundtrack the party.

Rachel Gorman, a resident at HC-One’s Quayside care home in Yoker, turned 103 on October 8, and colleagues at the home made sure she still had the best possible day, despite current circumstances.

They presented Rachel with flowers, sweets and a cake and made the day special for her, with Rachel sporting a tiara for the occasion as she enjoyed signing along to music and being spoiled by staff.

During the early afternoon, tea, birthday cake, prosecco and wine were enjoyed by all, with some of Rachel’s favourite music being played - including traditional Scottish music, wartime classics and some of her favourites by Frank Sinatra.

Speaking on Rachel's birthday, Quayside Home Manager, Liz Campbell said: “We try to make every Resident feel special every day but today is extraordinary and extra special for Rachel.”

As a young woman Rachel was moved from her home in Glasgow to Aberdeenshire, where she worked with the Forestry Commission, cutting down trees for the war effort, and still likes to chat about her memories from that time.

We can only imagine she has a few amazing stories to tell!

We wish Rachel all the best and hope she had a wonderful day.
