Glasgow car fires treated as targeted as hunt launched for two men seen at vehicles

Scots detectives are now treating the fire which ripped through a number of cars parked on Glasgow streets as targeted.

Fire crews and police officers rushed to Herriot Street and Maxwell Road in Pollokshields around 2.35am on Tuesday August 17.

The fires were extinguished and no-one was injured but detectives are now trying to identify two men seen at the vehicles who are believed to be responsible for the attack.

One of them was wearing dark clothing and the other was wearing a light-coloured hooded top and dark trousers.

Pictures showed the damage that had been caused during the terrifying incident, which left local residents shocked.

A Maxwell Road resident, whose father-in-law's car was parked behind the one which torched on the street, told the Record: "It was very unlucky but we're just glad no one was hurt.

Another local added: "I saw it all out my window. It was really scary, there was explosions and everything. The first thing that caught my eye was I heard a little pop.

"Things were popping then the fire got really high, you could feel the intensity of the heat."

Detective Constable Heather Ferry said: “We believe this was a targeted attack by these two men and I would urge anyone who was in the area early on Tuesday morning, who seen them acting suspiciously, or who has any information or footage regarding this crime to contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 0280 of 17 August.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
