Glasgow car driver and passenger hospitalised after three-car smash on M77

Two people have been taken to hospital following a three-car smash on the M77 motorway this afternoon.

The incident happened on the M77 southbound between Junction 1 B768 (Dumbreck Road) and Junction 2 B762 ( Barrhead Road) at around 3:45pm this afternoon.

Police and emergency services joined Scotland TranServ's Trunk Roads Incident Support Unit (TRISS) at the scene.

Officers say one lane was blocked with the other moved to the hard shoulder for recovery.

The crash caused long delays for drivers using the M77 as well as the M8 and M74 this afternoon and evening. However Traffic Scotland noted at 7:15 this evening that traffic was now running well on all three roads.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called around 3pm on Friday, 8 October, to a report of crash involving three vehicles on the M77 southbound between junctions one and two.

"One lane was blocked while the vehicle were moved to the hard shoulder for recovery. The driver and passenger of one car have been taken to hospital.”
