Glasgow call centre closes after worker tests positive for coronavirus

A Glasgow call centre has closed after a co-worker tested positive for Covid 19, weeks after the premises re-opened.

According to the Daily Record, a whistleblower said that the Kura contact centre in Swan Street was closed for an emergency deep clean after the worker went home and was later found to have the virus.

Kura confirmed to Glasgow Live the offices were being deep cleaned today, with workers working from home.

Around 30 workers were sent home and 10 staff at the office - which works on behalf of BT - are now being tested, according to the source.

The source told the Daily Record: “We were told we could not work from home for some reason so we have all been back in for a few weeks now. The social distancing hasn’t been great as people haven’t been keeping to it.

“My co-worker was in and they just did not look well at all. They were coughing and looked terrible. They were eventually convinced to go home and they later tested positive. They weren’t keen to go at first as they feared losing money."

A spokeswoman from Kura told Glasgow Live : "We have had a confirmed case of COVID in one of our Glasgow buildings. The majority of our people are working from home but a minimum number of people have had to be office based.

"Our internal protocols have been followed including full social distancing, strict access controls, temperature checking on entering and wearing masks when moving throughout the building, as well as advice and guidance for our people on handwashing/hand sanitisers etc.

"As soon as the case was confirmed, we implemented our internal track and trace and have advised all those in proximity to the individual concerned to have a test and to remain away from the office until they have their results.

"All individuals who work in this office have been advised to remain at home (on full pay) while we carry out a deep clean of the building.

"The affected office has been locked down and a deep clean commenced at 9am this morning.  We are confident in our protocols and the steps we take to ensure the health and wellbeing of our people."
