Glasgow businessman Amrik Singh dies after four-day battle with coronavirus

Popular Glasgow businessman Amrik Singh has died after a four-day battle with coronavirus.

He was admitted to hospital on Sunday after he began displaying symptoms of the deadly Covid-19.

The 84-year-old “battled heroically” against the virus, but he tragically passed away on Wednesday afternoon.

He was a much-loved owner of a convenience store on Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow’s West End for a quarter of a century.

Amrik also took up long-distance running in his 40s and went on to compete in 26 London Marathons - with the last of his entries coming in his late 70s.

Grandson Paman Singh wrote on social media : “An utter inspiration and my best friend in life. Someone who empowered others to become better versions of themselves.

“Goodnight Amrik Singh. Gone but never forgotten. I hope to be able to do a fraction of the good and kindest you spread in the world. I hope you knew how loved you were at the end.”
