Glasgow businesses already getting Christmas decorations up three months early

It's 106 days and three months till we celebrate what will hopefully represent a much more normal Christmas than was the case last year with our loved ones.

And yet that being the case, Glaswegians have been sharing their - unwelcome - surprise at the sight of festive decorations being hung up inside or outside various types of businesses across the city.

One person who spotted a tree already up and decorations at an unnamed city hotel tweeted: "Up in Glasgow visiting two new customers. It’s only September, can’t believe that the hotel already have their Christmas tree up!"

Another spotted what appear to be Christmas trees outside the entrance to the Dakota hotel in the city centre, tweeting: "Christmas decorations already up at Dakota Glasgow. 31st August: New record?"

Speaking of Christmas, a report suggesting £13,000 of public money is to be spent on a single Christmas tree in an area of Glasgow sparked confusion as whether it was 'made of gold'.

The yearly cost of supplying and delivering a real festive fir measuring up to 65 feet is stated as £13,000 in a procurement report detailing supplier tenders.

The figure emerged in a horticultural procurement report presented to the council's Contracts and Property Committee.
