Glasgow Buchanan Street busking video racks up 10 million views from across the world

The quality of buskers you'll find in Glasgow these days means it's hard not to be stopped in your tracks while walking down Buchanan Street on any given afternoon.

Just ask Cher, who paid a glowing tribute to a singer she spotted belting out a Whitney Houston track while she was in town for a sold-out show at the OVO Hydro a few years back - and even invited her to the gig.

Speaking of busking performances, while many have ended up going viral over the years after their vocal talents were captured on film by passersby, none have quite had the reach of a certain singsong that took place back in December of 2017.

That day in particular say none other than Keane frontman Tom Chaplin rock up to the Style Mile to entertain crowds of shoppers in support of The Big Issue.

Chaplin performed a stripped-back set featuring tracks from his debut solo Christmas album, Twelve Tales of Christmas, and some of his favourite seasonal songs.

But it was his renditions of Keane hits 'Somewhere Only We Know' and 'Everybody's Changing' that received the biggest applause from the gathered throng - and which have subsequently set the heather on fire online.

Since being uploaded to Youtube shortly after the busking set, both tunes have received a staggering 11 million views, with 'Somewhere Only We Know' being watched 7.7 million times by fans of the English rockers from across the globe.

And if you think those are decent numbers, then how about the 19 million views that a video of Scottish drum and pipe band Clanadonia performing on Buchanan Street back in 2013 has had to date.

Just goes to show, Buchanan Street might not be Madison Square Garden, but thanks to social media there's every chance of getting people all over the world clapping eyes on your musical talent.
