A Glasgow brewery has vowed to stop supplying Wetherspoons over its treatment of staff.
WEST Brewery said they would “rather sweep the streets than do business” with the chain's boss Tim Martin on Twitter.
The company was asked by a customer whether they would consider stopping supplying Wetherspoons, to which they replied: "Don't worry. We already made that decision last week. We'd rather sweep the streets than do business with people like him."
Martin came under fire after failing to assure staff that their wages would be paid while they were unable to go into work.
Instead, he suggested that staff consider taking up jobs at Tesco to cover wage losses.
As previously reported by Glasgow Live , dozens of Glasgow workers were left fearing how they would pay for rent and essentials as they didn’t know where their next wage was coming from.
Vandals then graffitied a Wetherspoon’s pub urging the chain’s boss to pay his workers.
Members of the public saw the messages scrawled on the shuttered entrance of the Sir John Stirling Maxwell pub in Shawlands.
Spray paint was used to write ‘Pay Up Tim’ and ‘Pay Your Workers’ on the bar on Kilmarnock Road.
Days after the company's decision was widely condemned, Wetherspoons agreed to pay around 43,000 workers up to 80 per cent of their wages while the bar’s remain closed.
But Tim Martin said that the company would pay staff provided the government agrees a reimbursement scheme before the end of April.
But it seems the Glasgow public won’t be quick to forget how staff have been treated.
WEST’s response has been liked more than 120 times, with the response being warmly received by followers.
Willie Baird replied: “You were always my favourite beer now you’re just my favourite people.”
Lisajane Murray added: “Whoop whoop. Love you guys. Never change.”
