Glasgow braced for third day of wind and rain as Storm Dennis continues battering city

Storm Dennis is continuing to batter Glasgow this morning after two days of heavy rain and gale force winds.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office from 10am to 11am today, however the severe conditions set to last across the remainder of the day.

Gale force winds of up to 70mph are expected across western Scotland, with Glasgow also set to be hit with a deluge of rain.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "Some very strong winds are likely in association with Storm Dennis. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely within the warning area for much of the period. Gusts of 70 mph are likely at times, more especially across western Scotland on Sunday afternoon and evening, as well as in association with heavy showers elsewhere."

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has also issued a flood alert for West Central Scotland, with the chance of localised flooding and some travel disruption.

Here's what the Met Office has warned the public to expect:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
