Glasgow braced for strong winds as Met Office issue heavy snow warning for Scotland

Glasgow has been told to brace for strong winds and sleet as the second storm of the season, Storm Barra, hits Scotland today (December 7).

As well as preparing for bad weather conditions, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy snow and strong winds for the majority of Scotland.

The news comes amid concern has been directed towards gig-goers 'camping out' at the Barrowlands amid Storm Barra as it heads for the city.

People have taken to social media to warn music fans against the move - which they are doing in the hope of securing a spot at the barrier for English musician Yungblud's show at the iconic venue this evening.

The Met Office issued the yellow weather warning which comes in to place today at 11am until 10:59pm.

The forecasters warn that "heavy snow is expected across northern parts of Great Britain bringing likely travel disruption, especially over higher routes" which includes areas such as Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

They add: "Spells of hill snow will spread northwards across central and northern England into Scotland during Tuesday, this snow becoming confined to areas north of the Central Belt of Scotland during the evening.

"2 to 5 cm snow is expected to accumulate quite widely above 200 m with 10 to 20 cm likely in some higher areas, particularly in parts of the Southern Uplands and Highlands. Strong winds accompanying the snow will cause blizzards with drifting and poor visibility in places, especially over the highest routes."
