Glasgow-bound Ryanair flight from Dublin 'declares emergency' on approach

A Ryanair plane travelling to Glasgow Airport from Dublin this evening is believed to have declared an emergency prior to arrival.

The flight, which departed the Irish capital at 8:35pm, is reported to have landed in Glasgow at 9:16pm this evening.

A planespotting account on Twitter sent out an alert that the plane had declared a 'Squak 7700' emergency as it was flying over Irvine in North Ayrshire.

They tweeted a picture of the route map of the flight along with the caption: "EMERGENCY DECLARED>>> Aircraft is: EI-ENC User: Ryanair Callsign: RYR5776 #Squawk 7700 Signal Unknown."

According to website Aviation Matters, a 'squawk code' is a code assigned by Air Traffic Control that pilots enter into their transponder that identifies the aircraft on the controllers screen.

A 7700 is a squawk code that is reserved for emergency situations and immediately alerts Air Traffic Control (ATC) and other units that the aircraft squawking 7700 is in distress.

Glasgow Live has approached both Ryanair and Glasgow Airport for comment.
