Glasgow-based nail artist creates incredible Tunnock's Teacake nail art

A Glasgow-based nail technician has tapped into Scotland's love of Tunnock's teacakes with some incredible nail art.

Mariko O'Neill, who runs Sakura Nails in Shawlands, posted a pic of the design which included the iconic Tunnock's wrapper on her Instagram page.

And it seems it's got the firm's approval after they shared the post on their Facebook page.

Fans of the sweetie company were bowled over by the artwork which also included the Tunnock's logo and even an image of their long time mascot the Tunnock's Boy.

Mariko, who moved to Scotland from Japan seven years ago, creates the designs using high quality Japanese gel products before posting them on social media.

She said she was inspired by the Scottish love of the mallow filled chocolate treats.

Unable to work during lockdown, she explained that she started painting portrait nails to keep herself busy, she said: "I started getting positive reactions on my Instagram, so I just wanted to keep on painting something cool and making people surprised with my fun nail art."

Having previously been inspired by anime, films like The Shining and even Oor Wullie, Mariko chose Tunnock's as her latest project, she said: "Tunnock's is kind of iconic for Scottish people and my family and I really love their products, I looked at creating nails inspired by their packaging but when I looked on their homepage I found Mr Tunnock's picture and decided to paint his portrait too."

The results are pretty incredible and sure to be instantly recogisable to any fan of the Scottish treats.
