Glasgow Barlinnie prisoner dies behind bars at age of 53 as probe to be held

A Glasgow prisoner has died behind bars at the age of 53.

Rudolphus Zijlmans was serving his sentence at HMP Barlinnie after being sentenced at Edinburgh High Court in 2019.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed his death in the prison on June 3.

Police Scotland were informed and it was confirmed that a A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) has ordered into his death while he was in custody.

A statement from the SPS reads: "Rudolphus Zijlmans, 53, a prisoner at HMP Barlinnie has died on 3 June 2023. He was convicted at Edinburgh High Court in 2019.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
