A council probe has been launched after a Glasgow bar hosted a stripper for punters amid level two coronavirus restrictions.
The Butterfly Lounge in Glasgow hosted a “Thirsty Tuesdays” event in which a stripper performed for a large crowd inside the venue on Cochrane Street.
Images from the venue show a strip tease taking place with unmasked revellers standing watch - and one punter licking whipped cream off the entertainer's buttocks.
Glasgow City Council say they have now launched an investigation into the incident and any possible breach of the coronavirus rules.
The city remains in Level Two of the Scottish Government’s coronavirus restrictions stating that adult entertainment, along with nightclubs, is not permitted.
Indoor meetings of up to six people from three households is permitted but everyone must wear a face mask inside a venue while they are not eating or drinking at a table.
It comes as cases of the virus continues to rise in Scotland amid increased concerns about the Delta variant.
We reported earlier this week how the country was found to have the highest number of covid hotspots in Europe, according to a report by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Today the Scottish Government reported 3,799 new cases of Covid while five new deaths were recorded overnight.
The event at the bar, which took place on July 6, resulted in raised eyebrows from onlookers.
An eye witness told the Daily Record: “I was passing the Butterfly Lounge in Glasgow and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“It was jam packed, people standing all over the place even at the bar and there was a stripper! Clear breach of coronavirus rules.”
Writing on Facebook prior to the event yesterday, The Butterfly Lounge said: “Afternoon everyone and welcome to Thirsty Tuesdays down at the butterfly today we are celebrating our handsome bar staff Mark’s birthday so pop in later and buy him a drink or 10.”
The post reminds customers of the current restrictions by stating: “Remember to check in and out for NHS Scotland test and protect.
“We are still in a level 2 so that is for indoor drinking up to 6 people from 3 households. Outdoor drinking 8 adults from 8 households.”
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and are investigating.”
A Scottish Government Spokesperson said: “It is vital that all premises operate within the rules in their area. We remain in a delicate position, with the Delta variant causing additional levels of concern and we do not want to undermine the hard work and sacrifices that have been made to get us to this point.
“Anyone with concerns around compliance can report it to their local authority or the police.”
The Daily Record contacted The Butterfly Lounge for comment on the investigation.
