Glasgow band Wojtek the Bear to release single where 'Spanish Harlem meets Clydeside'

Glasgow band Wojtek the Bear have announced they will release a new single ahead of their second album "Heaven by the Back Door".

The new single, called "One Thing's for Certain" is a described as a "melancholic study in regret, situated in the melodic middle ground where Spanish Harlem meets Clydeside".

The band has said: "It could so easily be a lost track from a Ronettes session, well if it weren't for Tam's west coast Scots timbre."

The single is released digitally on 14th May with their second album, “Heaven by the Back Door”, released on transparent orange vinyl on 16th July.

Wojtek the Bear has featured at numerous festivals across the UK and Europe and appeared at Belle & Sebastian’s Boaty Weekender festival in Barcelona in 2019 alongside the likes of Teenage Fanclub, Mogwai, Yo La Tengo & Camera Obscura.

Tam told Glasgow Live: "This song was our attempt at trying to channel the spirit of all those amazing '60s girl groups, like The Ronettes with a West Coast Scottish indie twist!

"We had initially planned to release a few singles across 2020, but as all our gigs and festivals started being cancelled one by one we suddenly realised we were about to have a huge chunk of enforced time off.

"So we decided to just keep rehearsing and writing and before we even realised it we had an album written and ready to record. A few phone calls with Last night From Glasgow later we had an agreement for them to release the album for us and we set about recording in Chem19 Studios.

"Optimistically we've booked an album launch for 17th July at CCA Glasgow".
