Glasgow baker creates show-stopping 12ft wedding cake which took one month to finish

Christie Howieson has made a name for herself across Glasgow's cake scene with her impressive designs and "out of this world" creations - and she has now added a marvellous 12ft tall bespoke wedding cake to her portfolio.

The 30-year-old's online business, Cake Days A Week, launched around six years ago and has grown massively with over 14,000 Instagram followers and 10,000 followers on Facebook.

But, it's not just her online following that is huge as the art school graduate, from Dennistoun, is known for her big bakes which often leave jaws dropping.

Recently, she created a show-stopping wedding cake for Chelsea and Derek ahead of their nuptials which took place on Friday June 30. Her tallest cake to date, it took Christie almost a month to finish it and it certainly made a long-lasting impression.

The cake consisted of multiple sponges including raspberry and chocolate, chocolate, strawberry and her great-gran's vanilla recipe. She worked with Jordana Events to make sure her creation matched with the decor at the Trump Turnberry - where the couple said their vows last week.

Christie said: "Chelsea messaged me last year and said she met Jordana and they made a decision that I am the one to do the wedding cake if I wanted to. I do wedding cakes but on my own terms and not everyday ones, I want them to be special.

"She was adamant she wanted it really big, really tall with flowers, but she was laid back and trusted me.

"I was given such freedom so I didn’t worry about any pressure. I sent her pictures the day before the wedding and she was like 'oh my god' and I was quite chuffed knowing that she had liked it."

Christie arrived at the venue on Friday morning to complete the set-up before leaving at around 12.30pm.

She added: "It’s overwhelming when you see it finished because it’s exactly what I envisioned and more. It’s a really special thing that I managed to create.

Christie says seeing the finished cake was an 'out of the world' experience (Cake Days A Week)

"Seeing the finished product was an out of the world experience. It came from time and effort, I was super proud of it.

"This would probably be the biggest one I have ever made purely for the height alone. They were delighted and she (Chelsea) messaged me to say it was such a massive part of the day."
