Helicopters over Glasgow: Residents baffled by sight and sound of two massive military choppers circling above city

Glaswegians have been left scratching their heads this afternoon - and craning their necks out windows - after two massive military helicopters were spotted circling 'continuously' over the west of the city.

The helicopters, which look like RAF Chinooks, were spotted by one local around 2:55pm flying below the clouds not too far from the Riverside Museum and also above the Anniesland area.

They took to Twitter to share a video of the choppers circling the skies, along with the caption: "These 2 massive military helicopters keep circling over the west of Glasgow at the moment."

One person responding to the video suggested that the Chinooks may be undergoing some sort of practice activities related to the COP26 climate summit .

The summit will see the SEC handed over to the United Nations (UN) for the duration of the event - coming under UN control with its own security personnel. The site (known as the Blue Zone) will become international territory and fall under international law.

It comes after an identical incident last month which saw plenty of Glaswegians left startled by the sound of two twin-engined heavy-lift Royal Air Force helicopters as they flew above the city in the direction of Glasgow Airport.
