Glasgow artist creates portraits of city landmarks as 'heaven and hell' in new exhibition

A Glasgow artist is exhibiting a new body of work reimagining city landmarks as scenes from heaven or hell.

David Mach, who is one of the UK's most successful artists, is holding his exhibition at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts until October 16.

The theme is 'Heaven and Hell' and consists of eleven large scale collages each depicting various scenes from ‘heaven’ or from ‘hell’, with some of them based around Glasgow landmarks like Kelvingrove Museum and the Finnieston Crane.

Other locations are the Transport Museum, The Waverly and the Glasgow Science Centre.

His Glasgow pictures are called Glaswegian Eden and Costa Del Clyde, depicting the area as a beauty spot popular with sunbathers.

Mach is known for his dynamic and large scale collage, sculpture and installations using a wide range of materials including coat hangers, matches, newspapers and many other recognisable and familiar objects to create his work.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Mach is now a Royal Academician and Professor of Inspiration and Discovery at Dundee University.
