Glasgow armed cops: 'Man with weapon' sparks major police response in Toryglen

Police responded to reports of an armed man in Glasgow this morning.

Armed cops raced to the scene in the Prospecthill area of Toryglen around 10am.

Residents in the area took to social media to voice their concerns as the drama unfolded amid so far unsubstantiated claims the incident involved a nursery and local boxing club.

One resident posted on Facebook: "I've been out all morning, just heading home and staying in."

Another added: "Was just about to walk my dog, don’t think I’ll bother, hope everyone is safe."

Meanwhile on Twitter another pointed out: "Stay within walking distance of Toryglen, heard about the armed response being out and about, think I’ll avoid going home right now."

Police Scotland said they will remain in the area to offer reassurance.

A spokesman told Glasgow Live: "We received a report of a man in possession of what appeared to be a weapon in the Prospecthill Circus area of Glasgow.

“Officers are in attendance carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to the community.

"Anyone who may have been in the area and saw anything which might help with enquiries is asked to contact police on 101."
