Glasgow Argyle Street machete gang incident: Police launch witness appeal after serious assault

Police in Glasgow are appealing for information after a teenager was seriously assaulted in the city centre on Argyle Street at the corner with Queen Street.

Around 8.20pm on Thursday (July 1) officers received reports of a disturbance involving a group of five males with weapons. A 16-year-old male sustained a head injury and was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before being later released.

Footage from the incident shows a gang of thugs armed with machetes and knives threatening the teen before fleeing the scene.

The group of youths were caught on camera shouting at the boy, who is seen being struck on the back of the head.

Detective Constable Graham Nicolson, of Stewart Street CID, said: “This was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the wider public.

“I am appealing to anyone in the area at the time who may have seen the men involved either before or after the incident to get in touch. Also, I would ask anyone who may have captured images or video footage on their mobile phones to contact us.

“If anyone was driving and may have captured footage on dash-cam that could help with our enquiries, please get in touch.

“Anyone with information should contact police via 101, quoting incident 0387 of Thursday, 1 July, or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
