Glasgow 'apocalyptic-sounding' bang that woke up city captured on CCTV

People across Glasgow had their sleep disrupted after an 'apocalyptic-sounding' bang rattled the city in the early hours of this morning.

The noise was reported around 2:55am, with some saying its was so loud they felt their homes shaking, while others noted that it was the loudest bang they 'had ever heard'.

It appears that the "frightening" noise was thunder and lightning, with data from lightning-tracking website LightningMaps.org confirming that the city experienced lightning overnight.

Now we can get a better idea of just how loud it really was thanks to a video which has surfaced capturing the moment on CCTV.

The CCTV footage looking onto the back garden of a home in the city shows that the bang happened just after 2:55am while the vast majority of us were deep in sleep.

And while many thought we might be dreaming it, the video illustrates just how incredibly loud - and lengthy - the bang really was.

Let's hope we don't get a repeat of that anytime soon.
