A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspicious package at Glasgow University today, while another sent to the University of Essex posed "no risk to the public", police have confirmed.
It comes the day after explosive devices were found at three major transport hubs in London.
Several of the buildings at Glasgow University were evacuated after police received reports of a suspicious package shortly before 11am today.
Police confirmed on Twitter at about 2.15pm that a section of Essex University had been evacuated, also due to a suspicious package.
