Glasgow and Edinburgh trains delayed after person dies on line

A person has died after being struck by a train between Falkirk and Glasgow.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) were called to 12.19pm today to an area close to Lenzie railway station after reports of a casulty.

As a result of the incident a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

ScotRail services across the entire country are currently affected after the incident.

The train operator said customers will be affected if they are travelling between Glasgow and Aberdeen and between Glasgow Queen Street and the capital.

It's expected to last until around 3pm today, according to ScotRail .

A BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called at 12.19pm on 06/01 to an area of railway near Lenzie station following a report of a casualty.

"Officers are currently in attendance. Sadly, a person has been pronounced dead at the scene."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call today at 1222 hours to attend an incident in Lenzie.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew, our trauma team and a clinical paramedic to the scene."

A ScotRail statement said: "Sadly, due to a person being struck by a train between Falkirk High and Queen Street, services will be disrupted.

"We're working closely with the emergency services, more updates to follow.

"Services between Glasgow Queen Street and Aberdeen, Alloa, Dundee , and Edinburgh will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Falkirk High have been suspended."
