Glasgow Airport worker takes on December runway charity challenge

A determined Glasgow Airport worker is putting his best foot forward in a 31-day charity challenge throughout December.

Operations director Ronald Leitch will walk or run a different UK airport runway length each day throughout the month for Aviation Action.

He will join six other staff members from AGS Airports Limited, which also owns Aberdeen and Southhampton Airports, on the first fundraising challenge by the charity.

The seven have already tackled the 1,953m length of Aberdeen’s runway.

On December 23 they will take on 1,723m of Southampton’s runway and the 2,658m for the Glasgow length takes place on December 29 as well as other lengths throughout the month.

However, on Christmas Day, those taking part have the challenge of covering the 3,003m runway of Rovaniemi Lapland.

Aviation Action is a mental health and support charity specifically for aviation industry colleagues.

The charity has been set up to offer vital assistance to people who have worked in the aviation industry within the UK.

Run by a team of volunteers, Aviation Action aims to offer hundreds and thousands of aviation colleagues get back on their feet if they are facing difficult times both personal or professionally.

Ronald, who is taking on the challenge from Glasgow Airport, said: “I’m delighted to be taking part.

“It’s a creative way to raise funds and also awareness of the outstanding support provided by Aviation Action, helping many from within the aviation industry impacted by the pandemic.”

Chris Wild, founder of Aviation Action said: “We wanted to create an event that would raise awareness of the charity whilst promoting exercise to improve our supporter’s well-being.

“We are delighted that all AGS airports are getting involved and we are really thankful to them for helping us raise funds which will be put directly into supporting our colleagues in the aviation industry who are experiencing one of the most challenging years in their careers.”
