Glasgow Airport launches new low-cost airline service to Iceland and beyond

Glaswegians will be given the opportunity to see the Northern lights on a budget thanks to a new service launched from Glasgow Airport.

PLAY Airlines has announced plans to launch a service between Glasgow and Iceland beginning in May with scheduled flights four days a week.

CEO Birgir Jónsson said: "As we continue to expand our network, PLAY is proud to announce the addition of Glasgow to our growing list of destinations. With our focus on affordability and convenience, passengers can experience our on-time performance and safe, reliable service while exploring Scotland's vibrant city. We are excited to bring a new travel option to passengers, connecting them directly to and from Keflavik to Glasgow and to and from our routes across North America."

Christopher Tibbett, Group Head of Airline Relations and Marketing for Glasgow Airport, added: "Today’s announcement from PLAY is very welcome news and we look forward to working with them on this new service to Keflavik Airport, the gateway to Reykjavik.

"Air links between Scotland and this Nordic island nation go back decades thanks to its enduring popularity with travellers keen to take in the country’s stunning scenery and magnificent culture.

"As well as being a must-see destination in its own right, Iceland also offers fantastic and convenient connectivity to a number of popular North American destinations."
