Glasgow actor James McAvoy donates £275,000 to help buy vital protective equipment for NHS staff

James McAvoy has donated £275,000 to a campaign to raise money to buy vital protective equipment for NHS staff.

The Masks for NHS Heroes crowdfunder, set up by four doctors in London on Thursday, had raised more than £1,253,700 already - smashing the £1,250,000.

The Glasgow actor said his donation meant an order for 75,000 masks and 75,000 visors could be placed immediately.

The X-Men star, 40, added: “Caring for people with Covid-19 without access to proper masks, goggles, gowns and gloves puts NHS staff themselves and others at risk. That’s why I’m supporting the efforts of four NHS doctors to plug this urgent gap.”
