Glasgow 3D artist 'fuelled by lack of pubs' designs incredible Subway-themed bar

Glaswegians have been finding numerous ways to stay occupied amid lockdown, from baking sourdough bread to building home cinemas in their back gardens.

Still, nothing will come close to what Glasgow 3D artist Steven Bracki has done with all the free time of late - because he's been designing this remarkably detailed Glasgow Subway-themed bar.

'The Inner Circle' is a passion project Steven has had on his mind for the past couple of years - and one brought realised, on screen at least, following his research into the Subway branding and its history.

Designed completely from scratch, the incredible concept bar took Steven six weeks from start to finish, and was "fuelled by the lack of pubs" in his life amid lockdown.

Integrating the Subway's branding as much as possible, the bar features the Glasgow Subway's station steps, tiles, fabric of the seats and signage - not to mention The Inner Circle-branded rubber bar mats, Sub Crawl shot holders and full size subway car above the bar. Then there's the DJ booth in the driver's cabin and the pièce de résistance; a see-through dancefloor with subway tracks lit from underneath.

Speaking to Glasgow Live about the design, Steven said: "I had the idea for The Inner Circle a couple of years ago when I was trying to come up with some projects I could work on in my own time.

"I thought the idea of visualising a bar that was tucked away underground and hidden (similar to a speakeasy bar) could be pretty cool, which made me think of the Glasgow Subway.

"From there I started to think of a few main aspects I could use from the subway to shape the bar and how it could look overall as a space.

"Things like the subway seating being used to inspire the booth seating, the subway map being used as a design for the bar itself and using the tracks as a see-through dancefloor with people being able to step down onto them.

"One of the bigger and more prominent features was having a subway carriage on top of the bar which is why I designed a mezzanine into the space so that people could access it and use it for seating, as well as a DJ booth in the front cockpit overlooking the dancefloor.

"After that, I didn't actually work on it for around two years because I knew it would take a lot of work to visualise and I'm not an interior designer either.

"However, after recently going on furlough I had the perfect opportunity to give it a go and see if I could finish it.

"Overall, it took six weeks from start to finish, from gathering inspiration and designing the space right through to producing final rendered images.

"I had a great time working on this and always find it fun being able to visualise things that are a bit different!"

Sadly, it's all online for now, Subway fans - but we'd love to see this crowfunded into reality!
