FIVE new glamping pods are set to be situated on the Isle of Mull after council chiefs gave the go-ahead.
Fergus Whyte proposed the accommodation facilities for Salen Bay Campsite, on Ardmor Road at Salen.
Only one representation was received by Argyll and Bute Council planning officers, from Oban District Access Panel. Although not an objection, the group voiced concerns that the proposed development was inaccessible to wheelchair users.
However, a planning officer responded that the submitted information said that the pods were planned for level access, and planning permission has now been awarded.
An officer said: “The proposed pods would have a simple design and appearance, with a narrow linear form occupying a footprint of approximately 20 square metres, to include a covered decking area at the principal elevations. The pods would have a dual pitched roof at a height of 3.6 metres.
“The proposed facing and roofing materials would comprise shiplap cladding and natural slate tiles. The proposed pods would feature single windows within the side (north) and rear (east) elevations, and would be accessed through the principal (west) elevations.
“The proposed pods would be served by the existing vehicular access to the wider established campsite. The access would extend from the existing internal site access to serve the proposed pods, with parking provision for one vehicle to be sited immediately to the rear of each of the pods.
“Due to the lack of public water or drainage infrastructure within the vicinity of the site, the application proposes a connection to the existing private drainage system and connection to a private water supply.”
The officer added: “It is considered that the site would present a suitable location for an appropriately scaled tourism development that would meet the needs of the applicant and contribute to the local economy whilst respecting the existing rural community and surrounding natural and built environment.”
