APPROVAL has been granted for a new glamping site on farmland in the Scottish Borders.
Scottish Borders Council has given the green light for four glamping pods on land south west of Bridgelands Farmhouse in Galashiels.
The proposal incorporates a partially-covered external decking area, permeable grass-grid footpaths, parking and secure bicycle storage.
Also intended is minor landscaping of the site to include a new wildlife pond and planting of native species trees, shrubbery and enhanced grassland with wildflowers throughout.
The proposed development will form part of a diversification scheme for Bridgelands Farm, which has been in the applicant’s family for several generations.
A report with the bid stated: “The glamping proposal will support the existing farm business while catering to a need for rural accommodation and providing employment opportunities to people in the local community.
“Glamping is a recognised farm diversification scheme and the income generated by such diversification is a vital component of many farming businesses.
