Glamping company makes £1.5 million Scottish investment

Glamping company Further Space is making a "significant" investment in Scotland this year.

The first step in this expansion is the opening of a new site on the Isle of Mull, set to launch this spring.

The Port Nan Gael location will be Further Space's 11th site and its third in Scotland, with existing sites in Dumfries and Galloway and the Highlands.

The investment made by Further Space in Scotland has already exceeded £500,000 - and with plans to open sites in Skye, Oban, Darvel and Fordie - the total should surpass £1.5m by the end of 2023.

Further Space has a 10-year plan in place that could see it welcome 2.6 million guests per year across 650 locations within the UK, Europe and North America.

The new site, located on the shores of Loch Scridian and at the foot of Ben More, is run by a local husband and wife, Chermaine and Calum Laurie, and owned by Chermaine’s dad who runs the inn next door.

“Several family generations have operated this land and we are so excited to welcome visitors to experience the beauty of the island,“ she commented.

“Port Nan Gael is the ideal destination for going off grid, you can truly be at one with nature as you look out for otters, dolphins, buzzards and of course the famous highland cows are always grazing nearby.”

Further Space co-founder David Maxwell said: “We are beyond excited to be working with Chermaine and Calum as we prepare to open our third location in Scotland.

“We are committed to investing in Scotland and are passionate about increasing tourism in lesser-known areas to boost local communities that surround the pods.”

The new pods at Port Nan Gael are designed to allow space for a sofa area in the day and murphy-bed for the evening, along with an ensuite shower room, a bunk room, a kitchenette and Wi-Fi.
