Glamorous Manchester restaurant loved by celebs for decades to close for good

One of Manchester city centre's most long-standing restaurants is closing its doors for good.

The Restaurant Bar and Grill, loved by the city's rich and famous residents, will cease trading in early September.

The upscale John Dalton Street venue is one of four to be shuttered by its parent company, the Individual Restaurants group.

The company has also announced that it will close its Piccolino sites in Clitheroe and York, as well as the Alderley Bar and Grill in Cheshire.

The Restaurant Bar and Grill has been part of Manchester's restaurant scene for decades, launching in the early 2000s.

The glamorous three-storey site added a £1m all-weather roof terrace, complete with heaters and retractable roof, in 2013.

It was Individual Restaurants' flagship site, sitting above nightlife hotspot Panacea, which is believed to be unaffected by the closures.

Karen Forrester, executive chairperson of Individual Restaurants Company, commented: "The closure of these sites is part of a long-term investment and development plan for the future of Individual Restaurants.

"Our main priority is to keep our people within our Individual Restaurants family by offering opportunities to relocate to other Individual Restaurants’ locations, we will be supporting them throughout this process."

Four of the Individual Restaurants group's 28-strong estate will lock their doors on September 5, with 140 jobs affected.

A period of consultation will now take place at each of the restaurants.
