Glam up this May Bank Holiday to mark mental health charity event

Bank holiday weekenders are being encouraged to get their glam on to celebrate mental health.

A charity night will have entertainment, food and a fashion show.

Model Paula Muir is hosting Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful in memory of her brother Ryan, who took his own life last year.

The glamour gal is keen to celebrate everyone’s mental health and let others know mental illness is not something to be embarrassed about.

Paula, 30, said: ““I lost my big brother Ryan on August 5 due to his mental health. He overdosed at the age of 32.

“He battled with mental health for such a long time and we sadly lost him.

“While all our hearts were breaking and still are, I wanted to try make something positive out of such a hard time and turn the heartache in the family to something good.

“This event is linked with The Kris Boyd Charity and all money raised will be donated to this charity in my brother’s name.

“There will be entertainment, celebrity guests, a photobooth, candy carts, comedian, fashion show, raffle, live singers and so much more on the night.”

Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful will take place at Dumfries Arms Hotel, Cumnock, on Sunday, May 5, from 2pm until late.

Paula said: “The reality is Ryan will not be coming back and he couldn’t be saved but I can hold this event to help others.

“I would love to hold this event every year in his memory.

“It’s all about a celebration of mental health, spreading positive awareness of the illness that affects so many of us these days and in so many different ways.”
