Gladiators pay tribute to police dog Jet after twitter confusion

The makers of Gladiators, a 90s ITV entertainment show, have passed on their condolences after the death of a police dog that shared the name of a former star of the popular programme.

They made clear that actress Diane Youdale, 51, who played Jet, was still very much alive. This comes after the hashtag #RIPJet was trending on Twitter in tribute for the Avon and Somerset Constabulary police dog who died yesterday (April 15).

The Gladiators' Twitter account said: "We can confirm that our @GladiatorsTV Jet is very much alive and kicking! However, we’d like to pass on our sincere condolences to @ASPoliceDogs Jet who sadly died after being injured during an incident on duty #RIPJet"

A Twitter user called James responded: "I totally miss read what this said and almost broke down crying still sad though for the dog but this scared the h*** out of me for a sec then."

"Sorry James, it was trending on Twitter so we thought it was best to clear up the news," said the Gladiators makers.

News of the police dog's death has been shared thousands of times, with people from across the country sending their condolences.

The hashtag #RIPJet has been trending on Twitter following the German Shepherd Jet's death after he was hit by a train in Yate while on duty. He was helping track down suspected burglars and sustained severe injuries.

He was put to sleep yesterday.

The police force's Tweet in tribute of Jet, who only joined the police in September last year, has so far received 8,000 love hearts and more than a thousand retweets.
