So just when 2008 was starting to look like a year of gloom and recession - we learn that Gladiators is back to rescue us all!
Wolf (the American one)
While NBC is evidently struggling to fill its schedules, courtesy of the Writers' Guild of America, some bright spark at the network must have had a dirty great, steroid-filled daydream from the 90s, thereby reminding him (or her) that bodybuilders on wobbly podiums hitting each other with giant cotton buds don't need scripts, dammit.
American Gladiators (they like to reinforce the toughness of their gladiators by making them American; in the UK we know the show could only have come from the States and don't need to spell it out) pulled 12 million viewers on Sunday night, and now we learn that the remake will get a second run on NBC's affiliate stations over the next month.
We can only pray this goes unnoticed by the UK's telly honchos.
I feel I should confess at this point that I once cried at Gladiators. This guy won a charity special and was going to give all the money away and he was just so happy and it was really touching...
I'll get my coat.
