Gladhouse Reservoir Penicuik: Yobs cut down trees, start fires and 'trash' Midlothian beauty spot

Scottish Water are urging yobs to stop trashing Gladhouse Reservoir near Penicuik and hurling abuse at locals.

The beauty spot is owned by the water and waste organisation who say the area has been swarmed with revellers starting fires, chopping down trees and even leaving human waste behind.

Locals living near the woodland area are becoming increasingly concerned about the anti-social behaviour at the reservoir and recent pictures show the extent of the damage.

Gladhouse Reservoir provides water for 150,000 people in Midlothian, but Penicuik residents say they are being met with verbal abuse from the yobs when they visit the area.

Scott Fraser, Scottish Water’s regional manager for the area, said: “We are urging those people who have behaved in an anti-social way at Gladhouse Reservoir to think about their actions and the impact they are having on the environment and local residents and to stop this behaviour immediately.

“We want everyone in the area to be able to enjoy the amenities around the reservoir, as we do at reservoirs throughout Scotland, and to do so in a responsible way.“

The organisation said there is also a dangerous issue with people visiting the site parking inconsiderately on a narrow road beside the reservoir.

Scottish Water says they are working with a number of other organisations to try and tackle the anti-social behaviour.
