But, it would be heartbreak for Unai Emery and the Gunners as Dani Ceballos saw his penalty saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to see the Reds scape past Arsenal to make it to the quarter finals of the competition and send Anfield into raptures.
Ceballos was bought on as a second half substitute by Unai Emery, replacing Lucas Torreira in the 72nd minute, and Arsenal fans have taken aim at the Spanish midfielder following his crucial penalty miss.
The 23-year-old is on a season long loan from Real Madrid and has been a regular starter for Unai Emery in the Premier League so far this season. The midfielder originally impressed in his early outings at the Emirates Stadium, but fans have now made their feelings clear on the player's recent performances.
Arsenal will now have to dust themselves down as they take on Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.
