"Giving Vidic nightmares" - Liverpool fans stunned by Fernando Torres new look

Liverpool fans have been blown away after pictures were posted online of Fernando Torres who looked like he has undergone a serious body transformation.

The former Reds striker retired from football 18 months ago after ending his career playing in the Japanese league.

He was reportedly appointed as manager of Atletico Madrid B earlier this week and despite swapping his boots for the dugout - he's still not slacking.

Torres was always a slender figure, renowned for his electric pace during his time at Anfield. He certainly wasn't weak but neither was Torres specifically known for his upper-body strength.

Across social media, new photographs emerged showing Torres has seemingly bulked up since calling time on his playing days.

Advertising an 'AW8' shirt in the pictures, the Spaniard posed to show off his new physique, leaving supporters questioning the photo's authenticity.

But genuine they are and some Liverpool fans suggested he was planning on coming out of retirement to do a job in Jurgen Klopp's defence while others imagined Nemanja Vidic will be having nightmares if he sees the image, having often had a torrid time when coming against El Nino for Manchester United.

Here's how they responded online.

Torres is now coaching at his beloved Atletico Madrid, taking charge of the B team whilst spending plenty of time in the gym.

He left the club to join Liverpool in 2007 in search of trophies and was an instant hit at Anfield.

“It was the peak of my career [at Liverpool],” Torres told talkSPORT in last year.

“I arrived in a new city when I didn’t speak any English, but everyone at the city and the club made me happy. It was only happy times.

“The relationship between fans and players at Atletico was similar; Liverpool fans are special and the relationship between them is very close.”

“When I left Atletico, the team of my heart, it was with the target of winning trophies,” added the Spaniard.

“I was super happy at Liverpool but the club was about to be sold and it was a difficult moment; they were selling all their players and they started bringing in young players.

“It was another six or seven years to create a winning team and I didn’t have that time.

“I needed to find my own way and that was going to Chelsea. I thought that was the club to offer me more chance of winning trophies.”
